Poliziano

Poliziano is one of Tuscany’s most respected wineries, celebrated for its refined expressions of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti, the estate has grown from an initial 22 hectares to over 170 hectares of prime vineyards surrounding Montepulciano.

Poliziano: Crafting Modern Elegance in the Heart of Montepulciano

The winery takes its name from the Renaissance poet Angelo Ambrogini, known as “Poliziano,” who was born in the region. Today, Dino’s son, Federico Carletti, leads the estate with a philosophy focused on purity, precision, and the authentic voice of Sangiovese, locally known as Prugnolo Gentile. The vineyards sit on rolling hills with clay, volcanic ash, and limestone soils that give the wines both structure and depth. Poliziano is known for combining traditional Tuscan practices with modern winemaking methods, resulting in clean, elegant, and age-worthy wines.

The flagship wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, showcases red cherry, violet, and subtle spice notes that reflect the character of the local terroir. Their Asinone bottling, sourced from a single, low-yield vineyard, has become one of the most acclaimed expressions of Sangiovese in the region. Poliziano also produces Rosso di Montepulciano, a vibrant and approachable wine aimed at offering everyday enjoyment. The estate demonstrates its versatility through wines like Le Stanze, a Cabernet Sauvignon–based blend that highlights a more international style.

Sustainability plays an increasingly important role at Poliziano, with a focus on soil health, reduced chemical use, and careful water management. The winery combines gravity-flow systems and temperature-controlled fermentation to maintain delicacy in the final wines.

Visitors to the estate are welcomed by panoramic vineyard views and a cellar that blends modern technology with Tuscan architectural charm. Tastings offer a deep dive into the stylistic range of Poliziano wines, from youthful reds to powerful single-vineyard selections. Over the decades, Poliziano has earned a strong global reputation for consistency, elegance, and craftsmanship.

Its wines appeal to both traditionalists seeking classic Tuscan structure and modern drinkers who appreciate polished, fruit-forward profiles. Ultimately, Poliziano stands as a symbol of Montepulciano’s evolution: rooted in history yet driven by innovation, producing wines that remain true to the land while meeting the highest international standards.
