Barbaresco Basarin DOCG 2020 - Moccagatta

Founded in 1952 by Mario Minuto, Moccagatta takes its name from the old family farmhouse and builds on a winemaking heritage dating back to the late 1800s in Barbaresco. The winery remains fiercely familial, with current stewards Francesco and Sergio supported by their children—oenologist Martina and Stefano—preserving and evolving the estate’s legacy. Spread across 15 hectares—12 under vine—the estate cultivates Nebbiolo (7 ha), Barbera (2 ha), Dolcetto (1.5 ha), and Chardonnay (1.5 ha), yielding an average of 65,000 bottles annually. Their vineyards are farmed organically, with a focus on environmental care and low-impact practices, now moving toward full organic certification.

Moccagatta: A Family Legacy in the Heart of Barbaresco

Moccagatta’s Barbarescos are blended from three distinct crus—Bric Balin, Cole, and Basarin—each contributing a unique soil expression and character. The wines undergo stainless steel fermentation and extended maceration, followed by 18 months in French oak barriques and additional bottle aging before release. Notable reviews praise their 2021 Barbaresco as "superb" with rich, layered complexity.
